Consignment Policy

Welcome to the Heirloom Fiber Co. Consignment Program. This policy explains what we accept, how pricing and payouts work, and what happens if items don’t sell. By submitting items, you agree to the terms below.

What We Accept

We accept curated yarn and knitting-related goods, including:

  • Yarn (preferably new/unused with labels)

  • Sweater quantities and curated bundles/lots

  • Select notions and tools in excellent condition

We may decline items that are:

  • Strongly scented (smoke, fragrance, mildew)

  • Stained, heavily worn, or visibly soiled

  • Unlabeled (fibre content/yardage unknown) unless pre-approved as a bundle

  • Stored in a way that presents risk (including any known pest exposure)

All submissions are subject to approval. Final acceptance happens after we inspect items in person.

How Submissions Work

  1. Submit using our consignment form (include an item list + photos).

  2. Ship or drop off once you receive approval and instructions.

  3. Processing time: After your package is delivered and accepted, our current processing time is 7–10 business days.

  4. Listing: Approved items are photographed, priced, and listed in our shop once processed (and on or after April 15 during our launch period).

Pricing

We price consignment items to sell while keeping it fair for both consignor and buyer.

  • As a general guideline, our standard pricing is 70%–80% of comparable retail price, excluding tax and shipping fees.

  • Final pricing depends on brand, condition, demand, colour/dye lot consistency, and whether it’s a sweater quantity or bundle.

  • We may bundle items or adjust lot groupings to improve saleability.

Commission Split

When an item sells:

  • Consignor earns 60% of the final sale price

  • Heirloom Fiber Co. earns 40% of the final sale price

“Final sale price” means the price actually paid by the customer after any discounts/markdowns (excluding taxes and shipping).

Discounts / Markdowns

To help items move, we may apply discounts over time.

  • Standard consignment term: 90 days

  • If an item is unsold after 90 days, we may extend the listing for up to 30 additional days and apply further discounts of up to 15% from the then-current listed price.

Consignment Term and What Happens If Items Don’t Sell

Items are listed for 90 days from the listing date (unless sold earlier), with a possible 30-day extension as described above.

At the end of the term (including any extension), you choose one of the following options in the intake form:

Option A — Return to You

  • Return shipping/handling may apply.

  • If we do not receive a response and/or return shipping payment within 30 days of notice, items may be donated/disposed of to avoid indefinite storage.

Option B — Continue to List Until Sold

  • We can keep the item listed beyond the consignment term.

  • Additional discounts may be applied at our discretion to help it sell.

  • If an item remains unsold three (3) months after the end of the consignment term (including any extension), we may remove it from sale and donate/dispose of it without further obligation.

Option C — Donate/Dispose

  • Items may be donated or responsibly disposed of at our discretion.

Payouts

  • Payouts are issued monthly on the 1st for items sold in the prior period.

  • Canadian consignors may choose e-transfer or store credit.

  • You are responsible for providing accurate payout details (e-transfer email or the email tied to your store account).

Final Sale for Consignment Purchases

All consignment purchases are final sale, except where required by law or if we make a fulfillment error (for example, shipping the incorrect item).

Quality and Care

We take reasonable care of consigned items while in our possession, but we are not an insurer of items. We reserve the right to decline items at intake if they do not meet our standards.
